Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants have several benefits, including:
- Prevents bone loss and gum recession
- Leaves the surrounding teeth unaltered and untouched
- Allows you to eat and speak comfortably like before
- You can clean implants like natural teeth
- Allows you to preserve your natural facial structure
Dental Implant Placement Process
Dental Implant procedures are relatively simple and usually only take one visit. The process will start with small titanium posts in the area where your tooth is missing. The bone will then bond with that titanium, and the gums will heal over several weeks.
The implant will then be fitted to match the posts and set into place. It may take a few months for your bone to grow around your new implant fully, but this is entirely normal. About six mini implants will then be placed and tightened securely. Lastly, your denture will be retrofitted with a metal housing so your denture can be snapped into place.
Overdentures
Overdentures are by far the most conventional and common type of dental implant. They’re designed to fit over the remaining healthy teeth that will act as anchors. Overdentures can take a bit more time to prepare and cost a bit more, but they are the easiest and most comfortable dentures to wear.
